The Gulf Cooperation Council Otorhinolaryngological, Head & Neck Society

Short History

The work to establish a society which involve and unify the scientific activities of the ENT. Doctors in the Arabian Gulf region goes back to mid eighties when several meetings were held for this purpose; this has lead to major gathering in the First GCC ORL, H & N conference held at Muscat, Sultanate of Oman in January 1994. In this conference the representatives of the Arabian Gulf States agreed to form local ORL societies and to unify them later.
The major gathering continued in the 2 nd GCC ORL, H & N conference held at Al Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in January 1996 and agreed to establish this society to unify the local societies. The headquarters were agreed to be in Bahrain, the aim was to establish a union of societies, but official regulation showed no possibility to form a union. Hence members applied to establish this society and it was announced in the Bahrain Official  Gazette in June 1997 regarding the grant of permission to establish the GCC ORL, H & N Society, this society is individual in its membership, but, it actually acts as a union of the local societies.
The first general assembly was held on 31st December 1998 at Manama, Bahrain and the first Executive Board was elected for 2 years administrative term 1999--2000.
The Executive Board holds its meeting every 3--4 months at the headquarters which are located at  the Bahrain Medical Society's headquarters in Manama, Bahrain.

The Annual Meetings

Annual administrative general assembly meetings are held every year in the headquarters--Manama, Bahrain.
General assembly for elections and the scientific conference is held every 2 years in the first quarter of the year. The scientific conference is held by rotation between GCC States and the next one will be at Bahrain during February--March 2001.
